Low res reality

2018

Lowres reality is an experimental head mounted display, that allows the user to explore how digital systems perceive our world. It is equipped with two image sensors taken from an optical computer mouse, each recording with a resolution of only 30x30 pixels in a 5 bit grayscale mode, so there are 32 different gray levels from black to white. Besides that there is also a stereo microphone sampled at 8 kHz with a depth of 8 bit. Compared to state-of-the-art technology the resolutions for video and audio are super low, anyway it is still enough to perceive the environment and stay oriented. Due to the built-in battery one can move around freely and explore the machine‘s perspective anywhere for hours.
